    MINISTRY FOR LOCAL GOVERNMENT AND CHIEFTAINCY AFFAIRS


    VISION
    Ensuring Efficient Service Delivery for Good Governance in All Local Government Areas.  

    MISSION
    Coordination and supervision of all Local Government Councils activities through formulation of relevant laws and policies to guide the execution of their projects in relation to National Development plans towards community service delivery to the citizens.  

    FUNCTIONS

    1.      Issuing guidelines for the preparation of development plans and estimates of Local Governments. In order to ensure conformity with national development objectives
    2.      Assisting needy Local Governments in the preparation of development plans and estimates
    3.      Providing secretariat for the Joint Account State/Local Government Allocation Committee meeting s in the state
    4.      Providing secretariat for the meeting of local governments with the state governor
    5.      Monitoring and ensuring the implementation of guidelines from higher levels of government
    6.      Coordinating matters relating to local government reforms
    7.      Assisting needy local governments in the maintenance of treasury records
    8.      Coordinating community services
    9.      Serve as secretariat for state Councils of Traditional Rulers
    10. Dealing with complaints and petitions from local government areas
    11. Liaison with Local Government Service Commission, Auditor-General of Local governments and the Ministry of States and Local Governments Office of the Vice President, and the Presidency, Abuja
    12. Ensuring that quarterly returns of income and expenditure of Local Governments in the State are promptly rendered, and performing such other related functions as may be assigned from time to time by the State House of Assembly.  

    DEPARTMENTS

    The Ministry is made up of six (6) departments headed by directors, while the Permanent Secretary is the accounting officer of the Ministry. The departments are:

    (iii) Local Government Inspectorate
    (iv) Primary Health Care
    (v)  Budget, Planning, Research and Statistics
    (vi) Chieftaincy Affairs
