About HUMAN CAPITAL DEVELOPMENT AND SOCIAL WELFARE

The major goal here is to accelerate sustainable socio-economic development through the use of the state’s vast human and natural resources to address poverty, to unleash the potentials of citizens for self-actualization, and guarantee the promotion and protection of their individual welfare. One of our developmental strategies is to diversify the economy and strengthen sectoral linkages towards reaping from the resultant multiplier effect through the 3-E Dimensional Strategies of Employment, Empowerment and Engagement.

It is a fact that human capital development is very critical to overall development hence the Rt. Hon. Lalong administration is, with a deep sense of missionary commitment, dedication to it Social welfare which is another important component in the primary purpose of government has also received a boost.

Education

Payment of backlog of Scholarship to students of Law School and other Tertiary Institutions; Accreditation of 17 courses offered at the Plateau State University, Bokkos; Graduation of First and Second Sets of Graduates; Released the sum of N500 million for infrastructural development and accreditation of courses at the Plateau State University; Release the sum of N120 million for Infrastructural Development at the Plateau State Polytechnic, Barkin Ladi including an additional release of N228m in January 2018 for accreditation of courses; Recruitment of about 4,800 trained primary school teachers states wide, with each Local Government employing at least 250 Teachers; Sponsored and paid scholarships of twenty eight (28) indigenous students to the Egyptian Maritime Academy, Alexandria, and Recruitment of 834 Secondary School Teachers by the Teachers service Commission. The Schools Renewal Programmed of the State Universal Basic Education Board is also on course with well over 500 Primary Schools in the state being renovated, including the provision of desks, basic infrastructural materials and textbooks.

Health

Equipping and completion of the Riyom Cottage Hospital; Complete Renovation and Equipment Update of the Jos Specialist Hospital; Accreditation of some courses offered by the Colleges of Health Pankshin and Zawan; Installation and Equipping of Ultra-Modern E-Library facilities at the College of Health Zawan. The Cottage Hospitals at Mabudi in Langtang South LGA and Kwall in Kanke LGA are under construction and have reached about 90% completion.

Digital Switch-over

Plateau State was selected as a pilot State for the move towards Digital Switch-over by 17th June, 2017. The administration has faithfully implemented this programme.

On-going construction of the Zaria Road Ultra-Modern Stadium Complex which has been abandoned for decades.
