Jos South is a Local Government Area in Plateau State, Nigeria. Its headquarters are in the town of Bukuru at 9°48′00″N 8°52′00″E. It has an area of 510 km˛ and a population of 306,716 at the 2006 census.
Jos South Local Government Council is located in Bukuru town, which is 15 kilometres south of the state capital. The Local Government area, which is divided into four districts of Du, Gyel, Vwang and Kuru. It is an upland area with undulating hills, mountain outcrops, forest reserves, mining ponds, rivers, settlements, fertile ,Agricultural land for dry and rainy season farming. The major ethnic group in the Local Governmem area are the Berom, beside other minor settlers like the Hausa, Igbo, Yoruba, Miango, ete. The main preoccupation of the people is both subsistence and commercial agricultural production.

Some of the available mineral deposits include Cassiterite, Tin, Kaolin, Feldspar, Gemstones, Columbite, etc.
