Barkin Ladi (or Barakin Ladi) created in 1976, is a Local Government Area in Plateau State, Nigeria. Its headquarters are in the town of Barkin Ladi at 9°32′00″N 8°54′00″E.
It has an area of 1,032 km˛ and a population of 175,267 at the 2006 census.
The Local Government Area enjoys a temperate climate with two seasons- the rainy season and dry season, which falls from March to October and from November to February of each year respectively. The Local Government is very cold between December and February like other parts of the state. The inhabitants, who are mostly Beroms, Gashish and the Ron Kulere, are mostly farmers. The people of the area are equally highly craft and artistic. They are engaged in craft work like weaving of mats, baskets, making of clay pots, blacksmithing, sculpture etc. The area also enjoys a good road network and feeder roads linking all districts, Federal Government Airport (Muhammadu Wuse Airport), State Polytechnic in Barkin-Ladi Are-a. The Local Government also enjoys the presence of several commercial Banks and Industries.
Agricultural Resources
Their major agricultural products are Irish Potatoes, Maize, Millet, Vegetables such as Cabbages, Lettuce, Carrots, and Onions are widely grown. in large quantities with mining ponds serving as the main source of water supply. .
Mineral Resources
In the area of solid minerals, the area is equally endowed. Mineral deposits such as Cassiterite, Clay, Columbite, Ilmenite, Kaolin, Granites, Zircon and Tin Ore can be found in large quantities in the Local Government.
Tourism
The area has spectacular tourist attractions such as Kura Falls, Natural Satellite Dish Rock at Fan and Unique KutalSik at Zaron etc. Also available are hotlels, which provide excellent hotel services for accommodation and relaxation.
